1987
The company was founded in 1987 by David D. Schmid as David D. Schmid Construction in Knoxville, Tennessee.
1990
David Rhodes joins the company, beginning a working relationship that would go on to shape the future direction and leadership of the firm.
1992
David Schmid and David Rhodes become business partners, officially forming Schmid & Rhodes Construction and setting the stage for the firm’s continued growth

1994
Rhodes purchases Schmid’s interest in the company, continuing the business under the Schmid & Rhodes name with an unwavering commitment to quality and integrity.
2000
The firm becomes known throughout East Tennessee for high-end custom homes and renovations, built almost entirely through word-of-mouth referrals and trusted relationships. Serving people had become our guide post.
2004
Discovering a growing need to serve our clients in a high-touch fashion, the Service & Maintenance team is born with a singular goal in mind: to serve people.

With a growing team of approximately 20 employees, Schmid & Rhodes establishes it’s Leadership Team to reinforce a service-first philosophy centered on quality, consistency, and long-term stewardship of client homes and relationships.

Before anything is drawn or budgeted, we take time to understand the life you want this home to hold. From there, we prepare a proposal that reflects the layout, style, and priorities you shared with us.
Once the plans start to take form, we sit down with you to outline the financial aspects of the project. This includes reviewing drawings with the architects and designers involved, speaking with the trades that will be on-site, and providing a clear picture of the path ahead.
Before work begins on the site, we organize the project timeline and handle the necessary permits, contracts, and coordination to move forward. You receive a clear outline of how the build will progress and who will be involved at each stage.

For us, transparent and honest communication is at the heart of a good build. As we move through the process together, you’ll work with a single point of contact who knows your home in full detail. Regular on-site meetings provide an opportunity to discuss design choices, address questions, and make adjustments as they arise.
